Employee Spotlight: Von Brown

The fourth time’s a charm for Program Manager Von Brown…he is currently on his fourth stint in one of our programs in his 22 years with MarketSource, so it’s clear this program holds a special place in his heart. 

Serving as a field rep, as well as various management roles, Von’s rich history with this client has served him well. In fact, he considers them family. “I work with some people there today that I worked with 20+ years ago,” Von explains. “I think that kind of rapport is a constant reminder to treat everyone the right way, put your best foot forward daily and give your all to those who count on you.” 

Those principles proved particularly beneficial during the last two years. In the spring of 2021, this program was paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, in part due to Von’s relationship with his client, the trust they have in him and his tireless work ethic, the client chose to keep Von and a trainer on board so they could start building a plan for a relaunch later that year. 

What was his secret to helping his client navigate the pandemic? “I just try to be real with them at all levels,” Von says. “I don’t try to be anything I’m not and if we can’t do something, we are always honest in our approach.” 

He continues, “The best word to describe my relationship with the client is ‘family.’ We have a respect for each other that goes beyond work and an approach to communication that is very open and honest in good times and bad. The great thing is they consider [everyone at MarketSource] as part of their organization and they don’t look at us as a separate group.” 

When asked for the best advice he’s ever received, it’s evident that Von is true to his word. “Be yourself and remember that no matter how massive a company or industry may seem, you will cross paths with these individuals for the rest of your career…so don’t try to be something you aren’t.”
