Turning Life’s Lemons into Successful Lemonade

If one were to equate her career with that of an actress, District Manager Alexxis Coons has reached EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony) winner status. She excels in performance, continuous improvement, and volunteerism. Still, her path to the top has had its challenges.

Alexxis joined one of MarketSource’s mobile programs in 2016. She had no wireless sales experience but possessed an overwhelming eagerness to learn. Within eight months, this propelled her to electronics and entertainment lead, and she was transferred to a higher-volume store. Once the mobile department lead position was created, Alexxis was one of the first 17 people in the nation chosen to take on that role. “Then, I experienced a few speed bumps,” she explains. “I tried three times to move into a district manager position. Even though another candidate was chosen, I never let it get me down. I knew that when it was the right time, it would happen.”

It did. In 2021, Alexxis became district manager over the Phoenix market. “It’s been one and a half years in this role, and I couldn’t be happier with what I’ve been able to accomplish so far,” she says.

In her brief time as district manager, Alexxis has consistently ranked in the top 10 in the U.S. in productivity and sales. She covered the Las Vegas / New Mexico market for seven months last year, helping that district improve their rankings, all while building lasting peer relationships. “If I have good information to share, why not help my co-workers so we can all be successful together?” she points out.

“It’s okay to get knocked back or to have to readjust your timeline. Don’t be discouraged by how long it takes to achieve your goals. After all, what comes easy won’t last…and what lasts won’t always come easy.”

She also recently joined a group collaborating on improving the new hire training experience and participates in Women@MarketSource, one of MarketSource’s employee resource groups. Extending her passion for helping others, Alexxis volunteered to participate in a Junior Achievement program to help high school students with business competency through experiential learning. Alexxis and her colleagues met with students in early mornings every week for six months to guide them virtually through the creation of an advertising campaign. She helped them build a business plan, provided critical feedback, and even sat in on the presentation to their fellow classmates and teachers.

“I’m passionate about developing others and am so glad there’s an opportunity like this that exists for high school students,” gushes Alexxis, “so they get a taste of what to expect in their future careers.”

Alexxis reflects on her accomplishments by sharing insights: “I love learning from others, but I think it also starts with the right attitude, remaining optimistic and setting realistic goals for yourself. It’s okay to get knocked back or to have to readjust your timeline. Don’t be discouraged by how long it takes to achieve your goals. After all, what comes easy won’t last…and what lasts won’t always come easy.”
