Gregory Bansfield Thrives on Giving Back

Humility and kindness are not solely the marks of a great leader but also a great person, and Gregory Bansfield’s team is fortunate to be on the receiving end of both.

Gregory oversees the southeast region of one of our automotive client programs. His team trains, develops, and assists the dealership’s finance, sales, and service departments on our client’s products and offerings.

While he takes pride in his work, Gregory’s view is that he’s simply the chosen representative to answer for his region. “We’re all a team,” he emphasizes. “The families of those I lead depend on me to do my job well. My success is based on serving my team.”

“It gives me deep personal satisfaction when someone tells me they succeeded in something at work because of what I’ve taught them,” he says. “I am emotionally tied to all the individuals I lead.”

Gregory has been with MarketSource for seven years. Prior to that, he started out selling cars. Over the course of his automotive career, he worked his way up the ranks to two of the highest levels in a car dealership—finance director and general sales manager. After joining MarketSource as an account manager for another automotive client, he obtained a certification from the Association of Finance and Insurance Professionals and garnered two consecutive Account Manager of the Year honors. In his first year on his current program, he once again received the Account Manager of the Year award and then was promoted to a territory account manager three years ago. Just last month, Gregory was promoted to his current position.

The secret to his success? First, “inspect what you expect.” Gregory is a firm believer in focusing on the details. Next, learn from those around you. “Always listen first before responding,” he explains. “Most of the time, our stakeholders will tell you what the problem is, then it’s our job to find the solution.” Finally, find your sense of pride. “I take pride in providing for my family and helping my team provide for theirs.”

Gregory’s generosity extends beyond his role at MarketSource, as he dedicates much of his free time to giving back to the community in various ways. Beyond coaching his daughter’s basketball team, he has helped build homes for Habitat for Humanity and donates time, money, food, and clothes to the homeless. “I understand the need to help the less fortunate,” he explains. “I was once underprivileged, so I know that feeling. Once I became financially stable, I vowed to change as many lives as possible through giving. I feel an immense sense of gratitude that I’m able to do so. I’d much rather give than receive.”

The most important organization he donates his time to, however, is the Special Olympics. “My 16-year-old son Gregory, who is on the autism spectrum, is a part of this wonderful organization,” says Gregory. “It’s been life-changing, to say the least. The Special Olympics has helped my son with his communication skills, independence, and overall confidence. He’s now exchanging numbers with schoolmates and has gone to the park after school by himself. I credit the various programs the organization offers, like community events that keep kids engaged year-round, such as packing and unloading items for customers at Walmart and Target, and the different sporting events they host each quarter. These types of activities prepare the kids for adulthood and future responsibilities. I try to help out the organization as much as I can.”

With as much emphasis Gregory puts on others in both his personal and professional life, it’s not surprising that his favorite part of his job is teaching and leading his colleagues. “It gives me deep personal satisfaction when someone tells me they succeeded in something at work because of what I’ve taught them,” he says. “I am emotionally tied to all the individuals I lead.”
