Hard work, discipline and teamwork. If anyone can weigh in on the parallels between business and sports, it’s MarketSource Inside Sales Rep DJ Jordan. He boasts a successful history with both…and it runs in the family.
Involved in sports all his life, DJ excelled in football and baseball in both high school and college. At Thomasville High School, he played wide receiver, defensive back, punter, and punt returner – leading the state of Georgia in receiving yards his senior year.
However, he shone even brighter on the baseball diamond, leading Kennesaw State University to the 1996 national championships.
He also went on to get drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 1993 MLB draft.
His hard-earned efforts and stellar record led to his induction into two halls of fame: the Kennesaw State Sports Hall of Fame in 2021, and this past November, the Thomas County Sports Hall of Fame.
“I believe someone’s work ethic aligns with their overall character—it’s all about what you do and who you are when no one is watching.”
Coincidentally, last fall, DJ’s stepson was also inducted into two halls of fame himself. Kalif Raymond is a wide receiver for the Detroit Lions and recently became the franchise’s first player to score a receiving touchdown and punt return touchdown in the same game. He was inducted into the Greater Atlanta Christian School Hall of Fame and College of Holy Cross (Massachusetts) Hall of Fame for both football and track.
There may be more awards in the making, as DJ and his wife Kim’s sons Chase and Mason are also excelling in football and baseball at the high school and college levels (the couple also has three daughters: Mallory, Madison and Sydea).
Because sports and business are both very results-oriented, DJ has thrived in his six years at MarketSource, where he manages a whopping 700-900 accounts from New England to South Carolina.
“My hope is that I lead by a good example,” he says. “I believe someone’s work ethic aligns with their overall character—it’s all about what you do and who you are when no one is watching.” It’s no surprise, then, that he believes honesty, transparency, and trust are critical to success.
As for any general lessons DJ has learned in his career that he would like to pass along to others? “Take accountability for mistakes, share in the enthusiasm for your teammates’ success, and work to be better every day.”
