For Pearl Barraza, region manager for MarketSource, family comes in many different forms.
“I was raised by my grandparents,” she explains. “My grandfather was the hardest-working man I knew—he would wake up every day at 5 a.m. to work at Coca-Cola, go home to change, and then do mechanic jobs on the side. He was a jack-of-all-trades; if he didn’t know how to fix or do something, he’d learn how. My grandmother took care of the family. Together, they were a perfect team and have shaped who I am today.”
Her grandparents encouraged her to work hard for everything she wanted, but mostly, they encouraged her to be a good person. And although she lost her beloved grandparents in 2021, she vows to continue to make them proud.
Another person that Pearl has leaned on regularly for the past 12 years is her wife. “She has been there during the lowest of lows and the highest of highs. Having a significant other that motivates you and pushes you to be the best version of yourself is priceless.”
Her grandparents encouraged her to work hard for everything she wanted, but mostly, they encouraged her to be a good person.
While it’s clear Pearl’s support system has deeply influenced her strong work ethic and outlook on life, she credits a third group for contributing to her daily joy and fulfillment. That is her MarketSource family.
Pearl manages a team of 20 people and covers a large region for her program, from Phoenix to Tulsa to Puerto Rico. While her job seems like a tall order, Pearl thrives on helping others. “The most obvious impact my team and I have is the unique opportunity to save lives, which adds so much meaning to our workday. I’m grateful to MarketSource for allowing us that opportunity. I’m also grateful that the company has provided an environment that fosters learning and growth. One of my favorite phrases is “always be learning.” It’s a mantra I try to live by and also encourage within my team. No matter what…or how much…we know there’s always room for growth. We just have to be open to it.”
Thanks to this mantra, Pearl is her own best growth advocate, and she has been rewarded with multiple promotions at MarketSource, with the most recent happening in February 2023. “I’ve always shown a desire to move up in my career and help others the way I have been helped in the past. I believe having great management that sees what I’m capable of, paired with my work ethic, knowledge, and confidence, has allowed me to get to where I am today.”
She continues, “This is my family away from home and I feel so very blessed. I really love my job!”
